DOE Releases New Resources and Updates on the Clean Fuels & Products Shot™

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released updated resources on the Clean Fuels & Products Shot™, an interagency goal to dramatically decarbonize the U.S. transportation and chemical industries. This is the seventh DOE Energy Earthshot™.

New resources, now available online, include:

• A dedicated email address for Energy Earthshot-related questions ([email protected])
• A video recording and slides released from a recent informational webinar to provide an update on actions, recent activities, and next steps for the Energy Earthshot

The Clean Fuels & Products Shot was launched on May 24, 2023, at a ribbon-cutting event with U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm at Idaho National Laboratory’s Biomass Feedstock National User Facility. Since then, federal partners have been collaborating to achieve this Energy Earthshot's primary objective: to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 85% (compared to fossil fuel sources) by 2035. Additionally, the Clean Fuels & Products Shot aims to meet 100% of the 2050 projected demand for aviation fuel; 50% of maritime, rail, and off-road fuel; and 50% of carbon-based chemicals by using sustainable carbon resources.

DOE offices that have collaborated on this Energy Earthshot's progress include: the Office of the Undersecretary for Science and Innovation, the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, the Bioenergy Technologies Office, the Industrial Efficiency & Decarbonization Office, the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, the Office of Science, the Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Office, the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office, and the Advanced Projects Research Agency. The Idaho National Laboratory is also a collaborating DOE national laboratory.
