SWPA Celebrates 80 Years of Federal Hydropower

Southwestern Power Administration celebrated its 80th year in hydropower with gatherings of Southwestern employees, customers, and stakeholders at open house events held throughout the end of 2023 at Southwestern’s offices in Springfield, Missouri; Jonesboro, Arkansas; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Gore, Oklahoma.

Each open house was designed to celebrate the partnership between Southwestern employees, customers, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff, and other stakeholders, and to demonstrate commitment to clean, renewable energy through Federal hydropower marketed by Southwestern.

During the events, Southwestern senior leadership and designated site managers were available for conversations and tours of the facilities, and a slideshow featuring photos from Southwestern’s eight decades of service was on display for all to enjoy.

Administrator Mike Wech initiated the series of open houses to show appreciation for the support Southwestern has received over the years.

“Thank you to those who came to celebrate Southwestern’s 80 years in the hydropower industry,” Wech said. “The partnership between Southwestern, our customers, and the Corps is the reason we’ve been here for these 80 years and will continue to be here for another 80 years. I can’t forget to also thank the employees who worked tirelessly to make the open house events so special.”
