The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) is hosting several events in November that support research, development, and demonstration to enable the sustainable use of domestic biomass and waste resources to produce biofuels and bioproducts.
November 15-16, 2023 – Waste to Advanced Resources Matter (WARM) Workshop
With support from BETO, and in partnership with National Renewable Energy Laboratory, IBM, the Town of Cary, North Carolina, and Idaho National Laboratory, North Carolina State University is excited to announce a groundbreaking workshop designed to shape the future of waste management, drive sustainability, and explore opportunities for a net-zero bioeconomy. The Waste to Advanced Resources Matter (WARM) workshop will be held November 15 - 16, 2023, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The workshop will bring together participants interested in carbon resource recovery from municipal solid waste (MSW) destined to landfills for ultimate conversion to biofuels, biopower, biochemicals, and bioproducts. To register or for more information, visit the event website.
November 16, 2023 – Webinar - BRIDGES Bioenergy 101: Learn How to Bring DOE Bioenergy National Laboratory Case Studies to Your Students
Join BETO, in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory and Idaho National Laboratory, for a BRIDGES Bioenergy 101 Webinar on November 16, 2023, from 4:00 – 5:00 pm ET. The Bioenergy Research and Education Bridge (BRIDGES) Program is a FREE case study-based bioenergy education curriculum that is available online. Bioenergy knowledge is not required.
BETO and its partners have developed toolkits for four case studies covering sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), upcycling plastics, bioenergy feedstocks, and waste-to-energy potential. Each case study toolkit includes a student and instructor guide focused on authentic research and development (R&D) scenarios using bioenergy technologies.
November 21, 2023 - Barbara McClintock Fellowship in Bioscience Deadline
The deadline to apply for Sandia National Laboratories' (Sandia) inaugural Barbara McClintock Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship is November 21, 2023, by 8:00 pm ET. Sandia established the fellowship in honor the pioneering work of Nobel Prize-winning botanist Barbara McClintock to enable transformational research in biosciences.

The Clean Fuels & Products Shot is the seventh in DOE’s Energy Earthshots portfolio, and it focuses on decarbonizing the fuel and chemical industry through alternative sources of carbon to advance cost-effective technologies with a minimum of 85% lower greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.
Panelists from BETO, the Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office, the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, and the Office of Science will discuss how DOE works with American industry, academia, and national labs on research, development, demonstration, and deployment of technologies to decarbonize the fuel and chemical industry.
