National STEM Day 2023 is a day for educators and students to explore interests in STEM and STEM-adjacent careers. It’s the perfect opportunity to:
- Highlight how bioenergy plays a significant role in our everyday lives
- Sustainable Aviation Fuels is used by airlines
- Plastics are recycled and upscaled
- Agricultural residue creates biofuel and bioproducts
- Identify creative approaches to increase and maintain student interest in STEM
- Take advantage of resources to support critical thinking and creative problem solving.

- Educators and Parents–bring the excitement for bioenergy to life with the U.S. Department of Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office's STEM coloring book and fact sheets and newly launched Bioenergy Research and Education Bridge (BRIDGES) Program, a free case study-based education curriculum available online for high school, community college, and university students.
- Students–explore internships, fellowships, and training opportunities! Also, fuel your bioenergy curiosity with free resources from BETO’s Algae Technology Educational Consortium, including the Algae Academy for grades K-12 and the Massive Open Online Course that provides an Introduction to Algae for college students and professionals.
- Recent Graduates and Professionals–chart the next phase of your career! BETO’s Bioenergy Career Map is the clean energy compass to show how your skills or academic background are directly transferable to bioenergy-related roles.
Support the AlgaePrize 2023-2025 Competition
The second iteration of the AlgaePrize competition is underway! Teams from U.S.-based high schools, community colleges, universities, and graduate programs are gearing up to compete for a grand total of $35,000 in prize money and national recognition by advancing algae technology that will help us reach our 100% clean energy economy goals.
