On Dec. 15, 2003, the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Legacy Management began its operations to provide long-term stewardship of sites that had played a critical role in America’s nuclear history.
This October through March, LM plans to mark this 20-year milestone by sharing highlights of the program’s past, present, and future. Through social media channels and digital products, LM will provide past and current LM employee profiles, LM news stories, timeline posters, and a video series with a digital timeline. In addition, LM’s 2024 Quarter 1 Program Update will be a special edition dedicated to the 20th anniversary.
“This anniversary is a landmark,” said LM Director Carmelo Melendez. “We want to celebrate LM’s history and showcase the work and the people who have executed and continue to forge our mission.”
LM also plans to release its first-ever podcast. The podcast will explore the history of the organization and feature guests to provide varying perspectives on the LM mission. The four-part podcast is scheduled to be released Dec. 15.
LM will also create various videos, features, web content, and other material that celebrates the office’s past.
“We have grown so much over the last 20 years and have had so many accomplishments,” Melendez said. “We’re proud of what’s been accomplished in our history and I’m excited to see what the future brings.”
