Driving Change on World EV Day

We’re celebrating the fourth annual World EV Day on September 9 by sharing some key information about electric vehicles (EV). Whether you have questions about EVs or ideas about how to improve them, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) has resources to help. This day—and every day, for EERE—is about taking action to put more EVs on the road to help eliminate air pollution from fossil fuels.

EV Resources for Consumers

If you are preparing to buy a new or used car, consider that you may qualify for up to $7,500 in federal tax credits to reduce the cost. Additionally, you are likely to find state incentives that could save you money on the cost of an EV (or a plug-in hybrid EV or a hybrid vehicle). EVs can save you money every day and, on average, save $6,000 on maintenance and repair cost over the life of the car.

Wondering where to charge an EV? Check out the Alternative Fueling Station Locator, which covers the United States and Canada. You can download it to your phone so it’s always with you. The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation is working hard with states to implement President Biden’s goal to build out a reliable national network of 500,000 EV chargers by 2030. We’ll update AFDC as America’s workforce builds more charging infrastructure!
