Emerging Technologies Collaborative for Buildings Working Groups

The Emerging Technologies Collaborative for Buildings (ETCB) Working Groups convene key stakeholders to address technical and market challenges in the buildings technology space. Each working group also initiates “sprints,” smaller groups that collaborate on subtopics within the working group. These sprints tackle distinct RD&D challenges for building technologies by leveraging the diverse perspectives and expertise of ETCB stakeholders. Results and findings from the sprints and working groups are shared with the building sector RD&D community to raise awareness around ongoing activities and pressing industry needs.

The working groups and their purposes are outlined below:

  1. Commercial and Large Multifamily Building Decarbonization: Enhance efficiency, enable beneficial electrification, and cost-effectively reduce the carbon intensity and energy burden associated with space conditioning and water heating in commercial and large multifamily buildings.
  2. Building Envelope Retrofit: Accelerate building decarbonization by increasing the rate of building envelope retrofits and thereby also reduce the cost of beneficial electrification. Building envelope retrofits will help advance energy efficiency, thermal resilience, and durability of existing buildings while reducing health risks caused by low performance building envelopes. Improving building envelopes will also reduce energy loads, thus reducing energy burdens in vulnerable communities.

Stay tuned as the Energy Management and Control Systems Working Group will soon be launched.
