May 22, 2023Statement from Geraldine Richmond, Department of Energy Under Secretary for Science and Innovation, in response to the University of Chicago, IBM, and University of Tokyo collaboration
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) strongly supports the outstanding announcement made yesterday by IBM, the University of Chicago, and their partners in Japan to advance quantum computing and quantum networking. This collaboration is aligned with the U.S. science and technology leadership objectives of the CHIPS and Science Act. Argonne National Laboratory and Fermilab National Accelerator Laboratory, both of which are members of the Chicago Quantum Exchange and are home to two DOE quantum hubs, will help lead the way on this initiative. These laboratories, and other DOE national laboratories, offer the unique capabilities needed to deliver advances across critical and emerging technologies like quantum computing and artificial intelligence that will benefit the innovation economies of the United States and our allies.
