Mr. Stanley “Stan” Pyram is the Site Chief Engineer for the U.S. Department of Energy Savannah River Operations Office (DOE-SR). Mr. Pyram has more than 20 years of experience providing leadership and direction to federal and contractor staff responsible for the design, construction, oversight, and operation facilities within the Department of the Army, DOE Office of Environmental Management, and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
As Site Chief Engineer, Mr. Pyram serves as a principal technical advisor to senior management for all site issues associated with engineering, operation, and industry codes and standards applicable to the design and operation of SRS nuclear and non-nuclear facilities. He provides executive leadership of proactive engineering reviews and oversight of engineering processes, systems, testing, maintenance, configuration management, and extremely complex technical issues. He serves as the primary point of contact with the U.S. Department of Energy, Headquarters (DOE-HQ) for all activities associated with engineering and nuclear safety at SRS. He serves as the major point of contact on technical issues with the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB). He maintains an expert level knowledge of the technical and programmatic requirements established in applicable DOE Orders and standards, SR policies, and implementing procedures.
Mr. Pyram started his civilian career in the private sector working for Kiewit Corporation as a Mechanical Engineer. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer in the Savannah and Charleston districts as a Mechanical Engineer. He was part of the federal construction team that provided oversight for the construction of the Salt Waste Processing Facility. He eventually joined NNSA’s Savannah River Field Office as a Technical Program Manager and later worked for DOE-SR AMIES as a Facility Representative. His most recent position was with the NNSA Project Management Office as the Federal Project Director for the Surplus Plutonium Disposition (SPD) project. SPD is a $750M plus, capital line-item project to support the department to meet its legal obligations to the state of South Carolina to permanently dispose inventories of surplus plutonium.
Mr. Pyram is also a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve where he serves as Battalion Commander for the 391st Engineer Battalion out of Greenville, SC. He provides direct Command and Control to plan, integrate, and direct execution of six Engineer Companies across three states with more than 750 soldiers.
Mr. Pyram earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stony Brook University, a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of South Carolina, and a Doctor of Education degree in Organizational Change and Leadership from the University of Southern California. In addition, Mr. Pyram is a registered Professional Engineer (mechanical) in the State of South of Carolina, a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – Accredited Professional. He is qualified as a DOE Federal Project Director and Contracting Officer Technical Representative (Level III).
