The NNSA Office of Secure Transportation’s Aviation Operations Division has won the Department of Energy’s small unit aviation award for the third year in a row. Additionally, three OST staff members won individual awards in the annual aviation safety award competition.
OST aircraft move national security cargoes to NNSA customers and transport federal agents who conduct secure ground transportation. They also support DOE emergency response capabilities.
“I’m proud to recognize the winners of DOE’s annual aviation safety awards,” said Glen Wattman, Director of the Office of Aviation Management. “Congratulations to this year’s winners for being recognized as among the best in the business. The winners will go on to compete at the federal level as the Department’s nominations to GSA. Despite a very challenging year that included high operations tempos and staffing challenges, DOE/NNSA aviation operations continue to be admired and respected for its laser focus on safety and outstanding professionalism.”

Individual OST award winners are Danielle Bisenieks for administrative support, Patrick Williams for maintenance, and David Ortiz for operations support.
“My congratulations to our aviation division and all the aviation professionals on these awards,” said NNSA Assistant Deputy Administrator for Secure Transportation Vincent Fisher. “Their collective and individual accomplishments and dedication to the mission make them extraordinary representatives of OST, NNSA, and the DOE.”
Judges for the competition were selected from agencies outside of DOE for their experience and expertise across a broad spectrum of aviation related disciplines.
“Each judge spoke of how impressed they were with the level of individual talent and program accomplishments of the submissions they reviewed,” Wattman said.
