February 14, 2023Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm traveled to Arizona from Thursday, January 19th to Friday, January 20th, to highlight the Biden-Harris Administration's commitment to building a clean energy economy on American soil, with American workers.
During her trip, the Secretary was joined by Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland in commemorating the groundbreaking of the Ten West Link transmission project, which will deliver low-cost electricity to millions of customers in Central Arizona and Southern California.
Secretary Granholm remarked, “Today’s announcement showcases the exciting potential of building reliable energy infrastructure that harvests abundant American-grown clean energy. The Biden-Harris administration is determined to create good-paying, unions jobs while addressing climate change head-on—and we’ll continue to see projects like Ten West being made in every pocket of the nation for years to come.”
The next day, Secretary Granholm paid a visit to the Western Area Power Administration's Desert Southwest Region and met with Administrator Tracey A. LeBeau for a tour of their dispatch center and to speak with senior leaders, maintenance managers, and line crews about the importance of safeguarding America's power grid.
The Secretary wrapped her trip with a visit to a recently weatherized home in the Phoenix metropolitan area, where she discussed the President's investments in energy retrofit programs. "It is inspiring to see the impact of these programs firsthand," said Secretary Granholm. "They not only make homes healthier and more energy efficient, but also help save families money on their energy bills."
The Secretary's trip to Arizona emphasized the Biden Administration's whole-of-government approach to helping communities transition to a clean energy future through lower home energy bills, reduced air pollution, and clean energy job creation.
