DOE’s research into PFAS is focused on evaluating promising technological approaches for PFAS characterization and detection, its migration in the environment, exposure risks and treatment options, and to identify opportunities to deploy promising technologies. Most government agencies and other research institutions actively engaged in PFAS research have identified similar areas, each with a different emphasis. DOE’s emphasis, outlined in its PFAS Research Plan, will leverage the unique facilities and expertise of the Department’s National Laboratories and partner institutions.
An initial version of the plan is posted. The plan will mature over time to identify additional capabilities that the Laboratories can bring to fill knowledge gaps and establish priorities to ensure a coordinated effort across the Laboratories and other research partners.
