December 8, 2022NNSA celebrated 15 employees graduating from NNSA’s Mid-Level Leadership Development Program (MLDP). The MLDP is NNSA’s flagship program designed for high performing federal employees to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities in preparation for leadership roles at NNSA.
NNSA Deputy Administrator Frank Rose delivered opening remarks by acknowledging the added challenges of completing this program during a global pandemic. “Your agility this past year is a marker of the caliber of character we seek in our future leaders—and we are grateful for your commitment,” said Rose.
He also encouraged graduates to take time to “reflect on where you were when you started this program and how you have grown as a leader during your year-long experience – completing this program confers a formal certification of your readiness to be a team and project leader.”
MLDP continues to prioritize developing a diverse group of mid-career professionals ready to lead NNSA into the future of nuclear security. In addition to boasting a range of talent, knowledge, background, and experiences, this year’s class represented 8 different program and field offices from across NNSA, including a mix of both mission and mission support offices.
MLDP participants completed capstone projects over the course of their year in the program on subjects such as, improving NNSA governance and plan implementation, and updating NNSA’s site governance models.
In addition to core trainings, each program participant completed a 60-day rotational assignment and a capstone project. Two graduates shared their respective capstone projects during the ceremony: “Increased Automation to Drive Agility, Transparency, and Efficiency,” by Arlene Stamper and “Improving Execution Year Cost Planning at the M&Os” by Madeleine Foley.
During the year, the 2022 MLDP class spent time at the Nevada Field Office. They had the opportunity to see site operations while completing trainings in project management, conflict resolution, and team development.
The program supports NNSA’s goal of developing meaningful and progressively responsible career pathways. As a learning organization, NNSA strives to promote employee learning, development, and training that benefits the agency and the participant.
