West Valley Demonstration Project
On October 1, 1980, the West Valley Demonstration Project Act, Public Law 96-368, was signed directing the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to take the lead role in solidifying the liquid high-level waste and decontaminating and decommissioning the facilities at West Valley.

Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) for the West Valley Site
The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Environmental Management and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) are jointly preparing this SEIS for Phase 2 decommissioning decisionmaking for the West Valley Site. Phase 2 includes the facilities and areas remaining at the West Valley Site after completion of Phase 1 decommissioning. This SEIS evaluates potential alternatives for these facilities and areas.
