August 15, 2022In a new journal article, researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory explore the potential results of both solar and wind energy project siting patterns. The article finds that siting factors are driven mainly by a location’s wind speed and direction, and access to open, underdeveloped spaces. Consequently, rural areas with small populations and lower income levels are often siting targets for wind and solar projects. The researchers analyze possible effects of this pattern from multiple perspectives.
