Electric Vehicles at Scale Consortium Codes and Standards

Codes and Standards for EV Charging

Technical standards are imperative to the development, deployment, and adoption of technologies. Uncoordinated development of codes and standards creates inconsistencies that impede new technologies and technological advances. The Codes and Standards focus area will use previous learnings to harmonize standards by identifying and addressing challenges and barriers created by conflicting standards and requirements to help integrate at-scale electric vehicle (EV) charging with the grid.

Prior lab activities for EV-grid-integration focused on communications, interoperability, and interconnection that built upon existing laboratory relationships and participation with applicable standards development organizations and standards committees. The rapid rates of technological advancement and EV adoption require a more coordinated emphasis to help accelerate the standards process.
