Cybersecurity researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) recently joined the Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CyManII), a national network that convenes advanced research institutions in smart and advanced manufacturing, securing automation and supply chains, workforce development, and cybersecurity. NREL will be the fourth DOE National Lab to join CyManII’s consortium of partner entities, reinforcing CyManII’s role as a nationally-scoped, DOE-wide effort.
As part of NREL’s partnership with CyManII, the lab will offer access to its Advanced Research on Integrated Energy Systems (ARIES) platform and cyber range to support the Institute’s six integrated foundational tasks, including performance metrics, technical targets, industry technology for cybersecure energy and emissions quantification, and the creation of a digital platform for workforce development.
CyManII is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Manufacturing Office; co-sponsored by the DOE Office of Energy Security, Cybersecurity, and Emergency Response (CESER) and the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE); and partnered with over 50 public and private organizations. The Institute recently released its first public roadmap, detailing a five-year plan of the Institute’s activities, priorities, and initiatives to research, develop, and implement a national vision for manufacturing cybersecurity that unleashes U.S. innovation.
