Safety is Southwestern Power Administration’s top core value and highest unchanging priority. The safety and well-being of all Southwestern Power Administration employees are the firm and continuing responsibilities of every member of management. Each employee, in turn, shares with management the responsibility for his or her own safety by performing his or her duties in a safe and conscientious manner, complying with all safety procedures, rules and regulations, and observing the provisions of Executive Order 12196, “Occupational Safety and Health Programs for Federal Employees.” Southwestern's Safety Management System is monitored and guided by an employee led Safety Council and dedicated Safety Professionals who focus on continuous safety improvement. Components of Southwestern’s Safety Management System include Safety Training, Work Procedures for high risk tasks, a Power System Safety Handbook guiding safe field operations, Worker Protection Programs detailing additional safety and health safeguards and requirements, and Safety Surveys to assure a safe and healthful work environment.
