The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Nuclear Engineering and Safety Basis Assessments, within the independent Office of Enterprise Assessments conducted an assessment of the preliminary documented safety analysis and safety evaluation report for the High-Level Waste Facility at the Hanford Site Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. This assessment, conducted primarily from November 2020 to March 2021, is part of an ongoing effort to conduct independent oversight of high-hazard nuclear facility construction projects, as required by DOE appropriations legislation.
