Mark Permann, new ICP CAB Member from Bonneville County, introduces himself

My name is Mark Permann and I am one of the newest members of the ICP CAB. I have worked for Battelle Energy Alliance (BEA), the Management and Operations contractor for Idaho National Laboratory (INL), for over 14 years in a number of different roles supporting the National & Homeland Security mission of the Laboratory. In my current role as a Program Manager, I lead a group of cybersecurity professionals that provide cybersecurity training to owners and operators of U.S. critical infrastructure (e.g., electricity, oil & gas, water & waste water, transportation, etc.). This project is under the direction of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). 

During the time that I have worked at INL I have seen firsthand the cleanup work that has been completed at INL locations like Test Area North (TAN) which is on the north end of the 860 square mile desert site. Having seen the completion of some of the cleanup work, I was intrigued to learn that there is a CAB that gives board members the opportunity to be more informed about the status of the remaining cleanup projects while advising on strategic priorities and public messaging. This seemed to fit me well as I enjoy being involved in local government and giving input on matters that affect a wide range of individuals. Having met and interacted with the other CAB members, I'm excited to learn from their perspectives and to share my thoughts and experience with them and DOE. By working together, I believe that the whole will be greater than the sum of the individual parts and DOE will gain value from the input it receives from the board. 

On a more personal note, my wife Laura and I just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary! We have four wonderful children and six amazing, though often rambunctious, grandchildren. We enjoy being outside in the summer and hibernating during the cold Idaho winter months.
