January 7, 2021LEXINGTON, Ky. – Employees and contractors with the Department of Energy’s Portsmouth/Paducah Project Office (PPPO) devised innovative ways to continue their annual holiday giving efforts in Kentucky and Ohio this season while adhering to COVID-19 protective measures.
“With the many stresses and anxieties that the coronavirus has placed on local nonprofits and families, the generosity of our contractors and site employees goes a long way to bring holiday joy to those who need it most this year,” said PPPO Paducah Site Lead Jennifer Woodard.
This year PPPO and its Portsmouth Site contractors Fluor-BWXT (FBP) and Portsmouth Mission Alliance; Paducah's Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership (FRNP) and Swift & Staley; and PPPO's Mid-America Conversion Services and Enterprise Technical Assistance Services replaced in-person events with on-air and online fundraisers, take-away luncheons, drive-through events, and volunteerism that were quite different than usual.
FBP estimates that its giving campaign helped more than 3,000 children in Ohio have happier holidays. A comparable number benefited in Kentucky.
