The Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the award recipients of its Cybersecurity for Energy Delivery Systems (CEDS) 2019 Research Call. The awards, totaling $30 million, will fund National Laboratory and partner research, development, integration, and demonstrations that aim to advance cybersecurity, reliability, and resiliency in energy delivery systems.
The ten selected projects include cybersecurity tools and technologies for securing energy storage systems; for anonymizing large datasets from operational technology systems; for verifying and validating the cybersecurity of system components and controls; and for providing visualization and analytics for enhanced situational awareness. The awarded proposals comprise cybersecurity innovations in both informational technology and operational technology meant for use in electricity or oil and natural gas production and delivery systems.
The final product resulting from each project will be interoperable, scalable, and readily manageable, with the ability to meet its identified industry need in a cost-effective manner. Selections support the Administration’s National Cyber Strategy and align with the objectives articulated in DOE’s Multiyear Plan for Energy Sector Cybersecurity, the Department’s strategy for improving the cybersecurity and resilience of the Nation’s energy system through the coordinated action of government and industry.
