The United States has increased the production of petroleum in recent years, accounting for 16% of the World’s production in 2017. The total amount of petroleum produced world-wide grew from 66.6 million barrels per day (mmbd) in 1992 to 97.9 mmbd in 2017. However, the production shares by country have changed little over that time period. The United States produced 15% of world petroleum in 1992 and 16% in 2017; Saudi Arabia produced 12% in 1992 and 14% in 2017.
