Vicki Michetti is an accomplished senior executive with extensive experience in leadership, policy, strategy, and partnerships. Ms. Michetti currently serves as the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE's) Deputy Assistant Secretary for Operations for the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM). In this senior executive role, she oversees FECM’s Offices of Budget and Financial Management; Communications; Cybersecurity and Information Management; Environment, Security, Safety, and Health; and Workforce, Management, and Administration.
Previously, Ms. Michetti served as the Deputy Chief Information Officer for Enterprise IT Policy Governance where she provided leadership, strategic direction, and executive oversight of the Department’s annual Information Technology (IT) investment budget of approximately $4.2 billion dollars. She oversaw the development of IT policy and governance, and championed technology innovation for key business practices, including the automation of IT acquisition reviews. She greatly improved transparency and oversight of over 400 DOE-wide IT acquisitions per year while improving timeliness, enhancing transparency, increasing efficiency, and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
Prior to joining DOE, Ms. Michetti was the Acting Deputy Chief Information Security Officer and Executive Director of Information Security Policy and Strategy, in the Office of Information Security at the Department of Veterans Affairs, where she directed cybersecurity metrics and reporting, and served as a catalyst for organizational change and governance to mitigate cybersecurity risks. She also served as a senior cybersecurity advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity and Chief Information Security Officer, developing cybersecurity plans, strategy, and policy to support organizational cybersecurity initiatives.
Ms. Michetti also has a lengthy career in the Department of Defense (DoD) both as a civilian and in the military. Before joining the Department of Veterans Affairs, she was the Director of Cybersecurity Policy and Partnerships, Office of the DoD Deputy Chief Information Officer for Cybersecurity, Office of the DoD CIO. She also served as the Director of the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Cyber Security Program which is a public private partnership focused on elevating cybersecurity in the DIB.
Ms. Michetti has experience working in industry as an Information Systems Engineer and as a Program Analyst.
Ms. Michetti is a veteran who honorably served on Active Duty in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in October 2007. Her career included an assignment at The Joint Staff and commanding the 25th Weather Squadron, an organization of over 200 personnel responsible for the 24/7 mission, flight operations, and resource protection for 86 DoD installations in 822 operating areas to include the western one-third of the United States and all DoD assets operating in Central and South America.
Ms. Michetti earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from California State University, Sacramento, and a Master's degree in Atmospheric Science from Creighton University. Her awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, and the Global War on Terrorism medal.
