Applications for the second cohort of Innovation Crossroads (IC), a two-year post-doctoral research program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), are due Monday, October 30, 2017.

IC embeds the next generation of top technical postdoctoral talent within ORNL as entrepreneurial researchers to address fundamental energy and manufacturing challenges identified by industry.

DEADLINE: Cyclotron Road Entrepreneurship Program – Oct. 31

Applications for the fourth cohort of the Cyclotron Road program are due Tuesday, October 31, 2017.

Cyclotron Road embeds top technical talent within Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as entrepreneurial researchers to address fundamental energy and manufacturing challenges identified by industry.

DOE plans to select up to six post-doctoral innovators to join Cyclotron Road. Applicants may apply to this merit based opportunity either individually or as a team. AMO Director Participates in Official Senate Energy and Natural Resources Field Hearing in Maine

AMO Director Dr. Mark Johnson traveled to Robbins Lumber in Searsmont, Maine on Friday, October 6, to participate in an official Senate Energy and Natural Resources field hearing. Chaired by Senator Angus King, the field hearing discussed how the Department of Energy is looking to support Maine's forest industry with early-stage research on combined heat and power technology to generate onsite power that will save money and create jobs.

"Combined heat power systems represent an important opportunity for manufacturers. They can provide reliable, flexible, cost-effective energy efficient power to a variety of industrial, commercial, and institutional energy consumers in our communities," said Mark Johnson.

Roctool Installs Leading-Edge Technologies at Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Roctool, a leading developer of mold heating and cooling technologies, announced the installation of its leading-edge molding technology at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Roctool’s large double-zone generator and its latest performance cooling unit were installed at the Department of Energy’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) at ORNL for early stage research and development (R&D) applications in automotive, aerospace, aircraft, military, energy-related and consumer goods.

AMO Project Receives Regional Partnership Award

The Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer (FLC) awarded Sandia National Laboratories; Oak Ridge National Laboratory; TPI Composites, Inc. and Wetzel Engineering, Inc. with the 2017 Regional Partnership Award for the “National Rotor Testbed: Using Large-Scale 3D Printing to Test New Wind Blade Designs” project. This joint project used large-scale 3D printing to create much smaller and cheaper prototypes used for testing new wind blade designs in a more cost-effective manner.
