Applications for the Advanced Manufacturing Office’s university-led traineeship programs have been extended to Tuesday, September 19th at 5PM ET.

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s (EERE) Advanced Manufacturing Office announced $2.5 million in funding to support university-led traineeship programs that address workforce training needs in the early-stage technology area of advanced materials and process technologies in energy-related manufacturing. EERE will competitively select U.S.-based institutions of higher education to implement masters-level training programs designed to train a new generation of advanced manufacturing engineers to fill workforce needs across industry, national labs, and universities.

Applications Open for Midwest Entrepreneurship Program to Drive Technology Innovation

The Energy Department announced the opening of the application period for innovators to join the second cohort of Chain Reaction Innovations (CRI) at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). CRI, one of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Programs, embeds top technical talent with ANL to perform early-stage research and development (R&D) that may lead to the launch of energy or manufacturing businesses in the future.

DOE plans to select up to six postdoctoral innovators to join Chain Reaction Innovations. View the solicitation and submission instructions and apply by Friday, October 13, 2017.

RAPID Manufacturing Institute Calls for R&D Project Proposals

The Advanced Manufacturing Office’s (AMO) Rapid Advancement in Process Intensification Deployment (RAPID) Manufacturing Institute is calling for stakeholders in industry, academia, and government laboratories to submit proposals for early-stage research and development projects that apply process intensification and modular chemical processing to solve industrial challenges.

CHP Installation Keeps Hospital Running During Hurricane Harvey

With any major storm, energy reliability and security are major concerns for those in the storm’s path. While much of Houston, Texas, and the surrounding areas, were faced with uncertainty as Hurricane Harvey made landfall, the Texas Medical Center – the largest medical center in the world – was able to sustain its air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, sterilization, laundry, and hot water needs throughout the storm thanks to the combined heat and power (CHP) installation operated by Thermal Energy Corp (TECO).

As was Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma is a powerful and dangerous storm, and so preparedness is essential. Those in its potential path are urged to follow the instructions of state and local authorities.
