Assessment of the Preliminary Documented Safety Analysis at the Y-12 National Security Complex Uranium Processing Facility

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Nuclear Safety and Environmental Assessments, within the independent Office of Enterprise Assessments, conducted an assessment of the preliminary documented safety analysis and safety evaluation report for the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) at the Y-12 National Security Complex.  This assessment focused on selected aspects of the UPF’s highest hazard building, the Main Process Building, and sampled a spectrum of hazards and controls for general conformance to the requirements of DOE-STD-1189-2008, Integration of Safety into the Design Process.  This assessment is part of a series of targeted safety basis assessments of nuclear facility design and construction projects at selected DOE sites.
