As part of activities commemorating National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day (10.08) during the month of October, the Fuel Cell Technologies Office (FCTO) displayed one of the world’s first commercial fuel cell electric cars for the two-week duration of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon in Denver, Colorado. Thousands of people from all over the world flocked to see the solar village and to discuss the renewable technologies integrated into the houses—and of course have the opportunity to see the fuel cell car. While on display, the vehicle garnered attention from hundreds of adults and children curious about the many benefits of fuel cell cars, including a range of more than 300 miles, refueling time of less than 5 minutes, and low emissions. Hydrogen and fuel cells also can be used to store energy from renewable sources like solar. The exhibit featured the car itself and infographics discussing fuel cells along with members of the FCTO answering questions.
