The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Fuel Cell Technologies Office (FCTO) and the United States Council for Automotive Research (USCAR) hosted a Research and Development Needs for Bipolar Plates for PEM Fuel Cell Technologies Workshop on February 14, 2017, in Southfield, Michigan. The goal of the workshop was to identify research and development needs for polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell bipolar plates for transportation applications. The focus of the workshop was on advanced materials, manufacturing, and design aspects of bipolar plates to enable achievement of DOE’s 2020 technical and cost targets for PEM fuel cells.
