DOE Issues Twenty-Nine Grants to Advance Clean Energy Technologies

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s (EERE) Technology-to-Market Office announced 29 Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) Phase I, Release 1 awards selected for negotiations. These awards help small businesses further develop clean energy technologies with a strong potential for commercialization and job creation.

Among the 29 cleantech selections are six awards under the two Advanced Manufacturing topics: Wide Bandgap Semiconductors and Atomically Precise Membranes.

WEBINAR: Extending Industrial Assessment Centers to Underserved Areas – January 19

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), on behalf of the Advanced Manufacturing Office, will host an informational webinar on January 19, 2017 at 12:00 PM ET regarding the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) entitled “Extending Industrial Assessment Centers to Underserved Areas.” Standard application questions will be discussed. No new information will be presented during the webinar and EERE will not answer any attendee questions.

EERE’s First-ever Assessment of the State of Global Clean Energy Manufacturing

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), in partnership with the Clean Energy Manufacturing Analysis Center, commissioned the first inaugural assessment of the state of global clean energy manufacturing in a report entitled “Benchmarks of Global Clean Energy Manufacturing”. The report examines trade and economic benchmarks for 12 key economies in four clean energy technologies: wind turbine components, solar photovoltaic modules, lithium-ion battery cells for electric vehicles, and light-emitting diode (LED) packages for energy-efficient lighting technologies.

DOE Releases Second Annual National Energy Employment Analysis

According to the Department of Energy’s second annual U.S. Energy and Employment Report (USEER), 6.4 million Americans now work in the energy industry, which added 300,000+ new jobs in 2016. Additionally, the national manufacturing industry alone employs just over 12.3 million workers.
