Funding Opportunity: Advancing Solutions to Improve the Energy Efficiency of U.S. Commercial Buildings (2015)
PROJECT OBJECTIVE
Envision Charlotte is a first-of-its-kind public-private collaboration dedicated to making commercial buildings in Charlotte’s urban core more energy efficient. Expanding beyond its existing portfolio of 61 buildings in Uptown Charlotte, Envision Charlotte aims to achieve a 20% aggregate energy reduction in more than 200 buildings by 2018.
The project is centered on a two-tiered approach that first targets operational energy savings and then seeks to determine capital improvements that enhance energy performance and increase property value. The project also incorporates a comprehensive behavioral change component as a vehicle for broad sustainability messaging and engagement to ensure that investments achieve their full potential over the long term.
PROJECT IMPACT
By enabling building energy-use reductions in the Greater Charlotte Area, Envision Charlotte will:
- Reduce the cost of doing business in Charlotte, resulting in the creation of greater economic development and environmental benefits
- Serve as a replicable model for other urban business cores
- Capitalize on current momentum to realize its mission to make Uptown Charlotte the most sustainable urban core in the nation
