Point Source Carbon Capture

The Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management’s (FECM’s) Point Source Carbon Capture Program conducts research, development, and demonstration of carbon capture technologies that will help decarbonize industrial operations and power generation.

Carbon capture technologies separate carbon dioxide emissions at the source. The captured carbon dioxide is then transported for permanent geologic storage or converted into valuable products, such as low and zero-carbon building materials, fuels, and chemicals.

The Point Source Carbon Capture Program is focused on developing lower cost, highly efficient carbon capture technologies by:

  • Funding front-end engineering design studies, pilot projects, and test centers;
  • Supporting research and development that enable scale-up testing and demonstrations of carbon capture systems; and
  • Ensuring that carbon capture delivers community, workforce, and environmental benefits.

FECM works to achieve these goals through engagement with industry, academia, technology developers, nongovernmental organizations, communities, and other stakeholders.
