Footnote 7 to Appendix D of 10 CFR 835 as added to clarify measurement of alpha particles from the isotopes of uranium in surface contamination. It has been noted that the beta radiation is typically more abundant and easier to detect. Analysis of this situation shows that it is acceptable to monitor the beta radiation provided the numerical relationship between the two is assessed.
