Funding Number: DE-FOA-0001496
Funding Amount: $20,900,000
The Solar Energy Evolution and Diffusion Studies 2 - State Energy Strategies (SEEDS2-SES) funding program aims to reduce soft costs through two distinct topics areas. Awards for this funding program were announced on October 20, 2016.
TOPIC 1: SOLAR ENERGY EVOLUTION AND DIFFUSION STUDIES 2 (SEEDS 2)
The first topic aims to increase foundational understanding of the technology evolution, soft costs, and barriers to solar deployment in the U.S. By combining cutting edge research tools with the creation, analysis and functionalization of data and information, the second round of the Solar Energy Evolution and Diffusion Studies (SEEDS) program will examine how solar technologies, the electric grid system, and the institutions that create the solar business marketplace support or inhibit the evolution and diffusion of solar. In partnership with data and energy practitioners, project teams will create use-inspired research on solar innovation dynamics and technology adoption patterns in order to advance social and decision science methods. Learn more about the first round of SEEDS.
TOPIC 2: STATE ENERGY STRATEGIES (SES)
The second topic will directly tackle soft costs and market barrier challenges at the state and multi-state levels by maximizing the benefits of solar electricity through energy and economic strategic planning.
The program targets state and utility partnerships and aims to advance solar deployment nationwide by providing analytical resources to states to identify and assess how solar may address a broad range of goals within the context of their energy portfolio. This program will enable states to engage with other key stakeholders to determine how solar will address a variety of their needs, establish or expand quantifiable goals for solar deployment, develop strategies to optimize solar benefits, and receive focused support to address the technical aspects of the strategies developed.
